Letters: The president should not be an enemy to half the nation

In the East Bay Times reader letters to the editor for October 21, 2025, there were two main topics that caught my attention: BART reliability and Proposition 50. As a frequent BART rider and a concerned citizen, I believe it is important to address these issues and their impact on our community.

Firstly, let’s talk about BART reliability. As someone who relies on BART for my daily commute, I understand the frustration and inconvenience caused by delays and service disruptions. However, I am pleased to say that in recent years, BART has made significant improvements in its reliability. This is evident in the decrease in major delays and the increase in on-time performance.

One of the key factors contributing to this improvement is the implementation of new technology and infrastructure upgrades. BART has invested in new train control systems, track maintenance, and station renovations, all of which have contributed to a more efficient and reliable service. Additionally, BART has also increased its staffing and training programs to ensure that trains are running smoothly and any issues are addressed promptly.

But the work doesn’t stop there. BART is continuously striving to improve its service and has plans for further upgrades and expansions in the coming years. This includes the introduction of new train cars, which will increase capacity and reduce overcrowding, as well as the construction of new stations to better serve growing communities.

As a BART rider, I am grateful for these improvements and I am confident that BART will continue to provide a reliable and efficient service for years to come.

Moving on to Proposition 50, I am pleased to see that the majority of the letters to the editor were in support of this proposition. For those who may not be familiar, Proposition 50 is a measure that would provide funding for critical infrastructure projects in our community, including transportation, water, and housing.

One of the main arguments against Proposition 50 is the concern over increased taxes. However, I believe that the benefits of this proposition far outweigh the potential increase in taxes. The funds generated from this measure will go towards improving our roads, bridges, and public transportation systems, which are essential for the growth and development of our community.

Moreover, Proposition 50 also includes measures to address climate change, which is a pressing issue that affects us all. By investing in sustainable infrastructure and reducing our carbon footprint, we are not only improving our community but also contributing to the fight against climate change.

Some may argue that it is not the government’s responsibility to fund these projects, but I believe it is our legal obligation to ensure the well-being and progress of our community. We cannot rely on the private sector alone to address these issues, and it is our duty as citizens to support measures that will benefit our community as a whole.

In conclusion, I urge my fellow East Bay Times readers to vote yes on Proposition 50. Let’s continue to invest in our community and make it a better place for ourselves and future generations. And let’s also acknowledge and appreciate the improvements made by BART in its reliability. Together, we can build a stronger, more sustainable, and more reliable East Bay.
