Jake Browning Reveals Classy Joe Burrow Gesture
The 2023 NFL season may have officially ended for Cincinnati Bengals superstar quarterback Joe Burrow due to a season-ending wrist injury, but that hasn’t stopped him from contributing to his team and helping his teammates in a different way. Jake Browning has taken over under center with Burrow on the mend, and he recently revealed a classy gesture from the former LSU star.
Browning, who was signed by the Bengals in the offseason to provide depth behind Burrow, was thrust into the starting role when the former first overall pick suffered a torn ligament and fractured thumb in Week 11. In the days leading up to his first start, Browning said he received a text from Burrow that he will never forget.
“He just said, ‘Hey, I’m here for you. If you need anything, just let me know,'” Browning said. “It was just really cool to see a guy who had been the face of the franchise for a few years now, who was obviously going through a tough time, still be able to reach out and be supportive of me. It meant a lot.”
The gesture is just the latest example of the type of leader Burrow has been for the Bengals. Despite the injury, he has still been a presence around the team, attending meetings, offering advice, and doing whatever he can to help the team succeed.
“He’s been great,” Browning said. “He’s still around, still helping out, still giving his input and his opinion. He’s still a leader, even though he’s not on the field. He’s still a guy that guys look up to and respect.”
The Bengals have been up and down this season, but Browning has been a bright spot. He has thrown for 1,719 yards, 11 touchdowns, and seven interceptions in seven starts. He has also shown flashes of the potential that made him a top prospect coming out of college.
The Bengals have a long way to go before they can compete for a playoff spot, but Browning’s performance has been encouraging. With Burrow’s guidance, he could be the quarterback of the future in Cincinnati.
The gesture from Burrow was a great example of the type of leader he is. It’s clear that even though he’s not on the field, he still wants to do whatever he can to help the team. That’s the kind of attitude that will help the Bengals get back to their winning ways.
