When the Golden State Warriors won their fourth NBA championship of the Stephen Curry era in 2022, it looked like they had a nice young core that would help Curry, Klay Thompson, and Draymond Green age gracefully.
That core included All-Star forward Andrew Wiggins, big man Kevon Looney, forward Jonathan Kuminga, guard Jordan Poole, and center James Wiseman.
But Kuminga has been a disappointment and Poole was jettisoned over the summer for 38-year-old Chris Paul, while the Warriors seemingly gave up on Wiseman when they dealt him last February.
Wiseman, who is now a member of the Detroit Pistons, still isn’t sure why Golden State decided to get rid of him, per NBACentral.

The 7-footer was the No. 2 pick in the 2020 NBA Draft, and he came to the Warriors just after a disastrous 2019-20 season in which Thompson was out the entire time and Curry only played in five games because of a serious hand injury.
The center position has always been the Warriors’ biggest positional weakness throughout their dynasty, and it was thought Wiseman would eventually give them the inside presence they never really had.
He missed all of the 2021-22 season with a knee injury, but he struggled early last season, which led to the team sending him down to the G League.
In Detroit, Wiseman had to go through a record 28-game losing streak this season, and after showing some promise last year with averages of 12.7 points and 8.1 rebounds a game, his numbers are down again this season.
Meanwhile, the Warriors are at 16-18, and they suffered a gut-wrenching 130-127 loss to the Denver Nuggets on Thursday in which they blew an 18-point fourth-quarter lead.
Reigning Finals MVP Nikola Jokic delivered the final blow with a game-winning 3-pointer from nearly 40 feet out at the buzzer.
