With the 2023 NFL season officially over for the New England Patriots, after the team fell to the division-rival New York Jets at Gillette Stadium on Sunday in convincing fashion, Bill Belichick’s job status is a hot topic of discussion.
All signs point to the Patriots finally moving on from the legendary head coach, as longtime owner Robert Kraft may be ready to start fresh with another head coach.
With Belichick’s status being the only thing anyone wants to talk about in New England, the veteran head coach knew that he’d be bombarded with questions about his future after the game but chose to deflect those questions immediately by saying he would only talk about the game, according to ESPN’s Mike Reiss.
“I’ll address questions about the game; anything about the future, I’ll meet with Robert Kraft, like I always do…disappointed in the season,” Belichick said.

Unfortunately for Belichick, no one wants to talk about a meaningless game that ended in a blowout because the only interesting topic of discussion is what the future holds for arguably one of the greatest head coaches in NFL history.
If the Patriots part ways with Belichick, the 71-year-old free agent will be in high demand, with plenty of teams around the league expected to show interest in his services.
There will be no shortage of head coach vacancies during the upcoming NFL offseason, with three teams already firing their head coaches, as the Las Vegas Raiders, Carolina Panthers and Los Angeles Chargers have already started their coaching search.
Many more teams are expected to part ways with their head coaches, making things interesting for Belichick if he ends up looking for a new job this offseason.
