Ceremony for Delivering the De-mining Certificate for the 400 KV Electricity Transmission Line from Huambo to Lubango

On June 7, 2024, a ceremony took place in Huíla province, specifically in the city of Lubango, to present the certificate for the de-mined area along the 400 KV electricity transmission line connecting Huambo to Lubango.

The event was attended by notable figures, including the Minister of Energy and Water, João Baptista Borges, the Minister of National Defense, Former Combatants, and Veterans of the Homeland, João Ernesto dos Santos Liberdade, the Secretary of State for Energy, Arlindo Carlos, the Vice-Governors of both Huíla and Huambo, the representative of the African Development Bank for Angola and São Tomé, along with various officials from the two ministries and invited guests.

Following the certificate presentation, Minister João Ernesto dos Santos Liberdade expressed appreciation for the Ministry of Energy and Water’s commitment, which made this achievement possible. He also discussed the overall significance of the occasion.

Minister João Baptista Borges reciprocated by thanking Minister João Ernesto dos Santos Liberdade for his contributions to the success of the ceremony. He underscored the essential role of de-mining in advancing the project.

He further pointed out that the primary aim is to enhance energy capacity to satisfy the needs of the region. He praised the de-mining initiatives for their vital importance to the energy sector and their significant contribution to the success of various electrification projects nationwide.

João Baptista Borges also highlighted that this project, which links Huambo to Lubango, will create job opportunities for many young people, a point he regards as very important.

Additionally, a symbolic act of presenting a vehicle to the on-site de-mining team was conducted.

It is noteworthy that the construction of the 400 kV electricity transmission line from Huambo to Lubango will be carried out in two sections, totaling a distance of 343 km.
