In line with the objectives established by the Angolan government, as detailed in the National Development Plan (PDN), which seeks to provide electricity access to all citizens and enhance social conditions, the “Consignment Ceremony of the Mussulo Rural Electrification Project” took place on Friday, March 22. The event was presided over by the Minister of Energy and Water, João Baptista Borges, in the presence of the Governor of Luanda Province, Manuel Homem, as well as other senior officials from the energy sector, provincial government, and invited guests.
The contract was signed by Hélder de Jesus Adão, Chairman of the Board of Directors of ENDE, and Elisio Augusto, the main contractor from Marck Cables. The project will encompass the neighborhoods of Buraco, Ponta da Barra, Pior, Cambaxi, Mussulo Centro, Macoco, Farol das Palmeirinhas, and Tapo.
This initiative will benefit around 21,600 families and will include the installation of 26 transformers, 3,600 residential connections, and public lighting at 950 points, with the goal of enhancing the quality of life for the residents.
It is important to highlight that the implementation of the electricity grid will create favorable conditions for promoting tourism, boosting the fishing industry, and reducing pollution by utilizing clean energy sources.
During his speech, the minister highlighted that the electrification of Mussulo would help address many challenges faced by the local population. He also mentioned that the President of the Republic had instructed that Mussulo be provided with access to electricity and that the project is expected to be completed by the end of this year.
Regarding the water sector, João Baptista Borges assured that the supply issue would soon be resolved with the installation of a pipeline from Ramiros. The Governor of Luanda Province, Manuel Homem, urged residents to protect these public assets and report any acts of vandalism.
Following the ceremony, the officials visited the Mussulo market and the medical center. To conclude the day’s activities in Mussulo, the Governor activated the switch to connect public lighting.
