A pair of adventurous kayakers have made history by breaking the world record for the fastest time to paddle down the navigable Thames River. On Friday, May 21st, Tom Jackson and Lucy Wright embarked on a daring journey to paddle down the 346-kilometre stretch of the iconic river in record-breaking time.
The duo, both from London, set off from the source of the Thames in Kemble, Gloucestershire at 6 am and reached the Isle of Sheppey, Kent in just 29 hours and 39 minutes. They successfully completed the challenge, beating the previous record of 36 hours and 40 minutes set in 2006.
Tom and Lucy’s incredible feat has earned them a spot in the Guinness World Records, as they paddled their way through stunning scenery and picturesque landscapes, facing various challenges along the way.
“It was an amazing experience and a huge sense of achievement to break the record. We were constantly battling the elements and our own physical and mental limitations, but we were determined to succeed,” said Tom, who is a seasoned kayaker.
