More people using AI at work: Gallup

A new Gallup poll has recently revealed an exciting trend in the world of technology and business. The survey, released on Sunday, found that the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in the workplace has increased during the third quarter of this year. According to the poll, 45 percent of U.S. employees reported using AI to complete their tasks, a notable increase from the 40 percent reported in the second quarter.

This rise in the use of AI comes as no surprise, as the technology continues to evolve and show its potential in various industries. Over the years, AI has been making its way into the workplace, promising to streamline processes, increase efficiency, and ultimately drive growth for businesses. And it seems that employees are catching on to the benefits of incorporating AI into their daily work routines.

The survey, which was conducted between July and September of this year, included responses from over 3,000 employed adults in the United States. It revealed that 41 percent of respondents reported using AI for work-related tasks, while an additional 4 percent reported using AI for personal use but not for work. This brings the total percentage of AI users to 45 percent, a 5 percent increase from the previous quarter.

This significant rise in the use of AI reflects the growing interest and acceptance of the technology in the workplace. As businesses continue to navigate the challenges brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic, AI offers a solution to many of the obstacles faced. With its ability to automate tasks, analyze data, and provide valuable insights, AI is proving to be a valuable tool in this rapidly changing world.

In addition to the overall increase in AI usage, the survey also found that the types of tasks being completed with AI have expanded. While in the previous quarter, AI was primarily used for customer service and administrative tasks, this quarter saw an increase in its use for data analysis, accounting and finance, and research and development. This indicates that businesses are exploring new and innovative ways to incorporate AI into their operations.

The poll also revealed that younger employees, specifically those aged 18-34, were more likely to use AI at work compared to their older counterparts. This highlights the growing importance of digital literacy and technological skills in the workforce. As the younger generation enters the workforce, their familiarity with technology and AI will undoubtedly continue to drive its adoption in the workplace.

The increased use of AI also has the potential to create new job opportunities and shift the job market towards more technology-based roles. This aligns with the findings of other studies that predict the creation of new jobs in the AI sector, as well as the need for upskilling and reskilling in traditional job roles to work alongside AI.

While the use of AI in the workplace is undoubtedly beneficial, it is crucial to address any concerns surrounding its implementation. The poll found that 73 percent of respondents were confident that AI would create new job opportunities, but 58 percent were concerned that it would eliminate jobs. To address these concerns, businesses must prioritize ethical and responsible AI practices, ensure transparency, and invest in training and development for employees.

In conclusion, the increase in the use of AI in the workplace is a promising trend that showcases the potential for technology to revolutionize the way we work. As businesses continue to adapt to the ever-changing landscape, AI offers a solution to many of the challenges faced. With its capabilities to improve productivity and efficiency, AI is set to become an integral part of the modern workforce. The Gallup poll serves as a positive indication of the growing acceptance and utilization of AI and sets the stage for its continued growth and impact in the future.
