A grieving landscaper from Essex is embarking on a journey of a lifetime, walking more than 5,000 miles from London to Ghana to honour his late fiancée. This incredible feat is not only a tribute to his beloved partner, but also a way for him to raise awareness and funds for a cause close to his heart.
Mark Smith, a 32-year-old landscaper from Essex, lost his fiancée, Sarah, to cancer last year. The couple had been together for 10 years and were planning to get married in Ghana, Sarah’s home country. However, their plans were tragically cut short when Sarah lost her battle with cancer.
In the midst of his grief, Mark found solace in walking. He would often take long walks to clear his mind and reflect on his memories with Sarah. It was during one of these walks that he came up with the idea to walk from London to Ghana in honour of his late fiancée.
Mark’s journey will begin in London, where he and Sarah had made their home. He will walk through England, France, Spain, Morocco, Mauritania, Senegal, and finally reach Ghana. The entire journey is estimated to take around 18 months to complete.
Mark’s main motivation for this journey is to fulfil Sarah’s dream of getting married in Ghana. He plans to scatter her ashes in her hometown and hold a small ceremony in her honour. He also hopes to raise awareness and funds for cancer research along the way.
“I want to walk her home,” Mark says, with tears in his eyes. “This journey is not just for me, but for Sarah. She was the love of my life and I want to honour her in the best way I can.”
Mark has been training rigorously for the past few months to prepare for this challenging journey. He has been walking long distances every day, carrying a heavy backpack to simulate the weight he will be carrying on his journey. He has also been working closely with a nutritionist to ensure he is physically and mentally prepared for the journey ahead.
Mark’s journey has already gained a lot of attention and support from his local community. Many have been inspired by his determination and have donated towards his cause. Mark plans to use the funds raised to support cancer research and also to help local communities in the countries he will be passing through.
“I am overwhelmed by the support I have received so far,” Mark says. “It gives me the strength to keep going and fulfil Sarah’s dream.”
Mark’s journey is not just a physical one, but also a spiritual and emotional one. He hopes to find closure and healing through this journey and hopes to inspire others who may be going through a similar loss.
“I want to show others that even in the darkest of times, there is always hope and strength within us,” Mark says. “I hope to spread love and positivity through my journey and honour Sarah’s memory in the most meaningful way.”
Mark’s journey is a true testament to the power of love and the strength of the human spirit. His determination and selflessness in honouring his late fiancée is truly inspiring. We wish Mark all the best on his journey and hope that he finds peace and healing along the way.
