Editor’s Note: This article was photographed for Mosaic, an independent journalism training program for high school students who report and photograph stories under the guidance of professional journalists. This program not only provides valuable experience for young journalists, but also serves to highlight important events and causes in our community.
One such event was the recent 5K and 10K race held in San Jose, California, which benefited the San Jose-Dublin Sister City Scholarship Program. The race, held on a beautiful Saturday morning, saw participants of all ages and backgrounds lace up their running shoes for a good cause.
The course, starting and finishing at San Pedro Square, was a scenic route through the streets of downtown San Jose. Runners and walkers alike were treated to stunning views of the city as they made their way towards the finish line. The energy was contagious as participants cheered each other on and pushed themselves to reach their personal bests.
But more than just a race, this event was a celebration of the partnership between San Jose and Dublin. The Sister City program aims to promote cultural, educational and economic exchanges between the two cities, and this race was a prime example of that. The proceeds from the race will go towards providing scholarships for students from both cities to study abroad and experience a new culture.
And it wasn’t just runners who came out in support of this cause. Volunteers from both San Jose and Dublin worked tirelessly to ensure the race ran smoothly. High school students from Mosaic were also on hand, capturing the excitement and spirit of the event through their photography and reporting skills.
This event truly embodied the idea of community coming together for a greater good. From the participants to the volunteers to the organizers, everyone played a part in making the race a success and raising funds for a worthy cause.
One of the most heartwarming moments of the race was when the winners were announced. Instead of keeping the prize money for themselves, the top three winners in both the 5K and 10K races generously donated their winnings back to the scholarship program. It was a selfless act that truly embodied the spirit of the event.
As the race came to an end, participants and spectators gathered in San Pedro Square for a post-race celebration. The air was filled with a sense of accomplishment and camaraderie as people shared their experiences and enjoyed the live music and food.
In a world where headlines are often filled with negative news, it’s inspiring to see young people taking the initiative to make a positive impact in their community. Mosaic has once again shown the power of youth and their dedication to social causes. We hope to see more events like this in the future, where communities can come together to support each other and make a difference.
We would like to extend our sincere appreciation to Mosaic, the San Jose-Dublin Sister City Scholarship Program, and all the participants and volunteers who made this race a success. Your efforts have not only raised funds for a good cause, but also brought people together and created lasting connections between two sister cities. Let’s continue to spread the spirit of giving and make a positive impact in our communities.
