Prep roundup: Dublin wins league opener over Livermore, St. Ignatius girls edge out Valley Christian

The Bay Area high school basketball season is off to an exciting start as Dublin, De La Salle, San Ramon Valley, and California all secured victories in their EBAL openers. Along with these powerhouse teams, Westmont, Los Gatos, and Leland also came out on top in their respective games. On the girls’ side, Acalanes put on an impressive offensive display, scoring 87 points in their win over Berean Christian.

Dublin High School kicked off their season with a dominant performance against Granada, winning by a score of 76-47. Led by senior guard Robby Beasley’s 23 points, the Gaels proved to be a force to be reckoned with in the EBAL. Beasley, who has committed to play at the University of Montana next year, also added 6 rebounds and 5 assists to his impressive stat line. Dublin’s strong defense also played a key role in their victory, holding Granada to just 47 points.

De La Salle, another perennial powerhouse in the EBAL, also started their season on a high note with a 68-53 win over Monte Vista. The Spartans were led by senior forward Tim Kostolansky, who had a double-double with 18 points and 10 rebounds. Junior guard Noah Clifford also had a strong showing, contributing 17 points and 5 assists. De La Salle’s balanced scoring attack and tough defense proved too much for Monte Vista to handle.

San Ramon Valley also came out on top in their EBAL opener, defeating Livermore 65-52. The Wolves were led by senior guard Michael Murphy, who had a game-high 25 points and 6 rebounds. Junior forward Jack McPherson also had a strong performance with 14 points and 9 rebounds. San Ramon Valley’s fast-paced offense and tenacious defense helped them secure the win and start their season on a positive note.

California High School rounded out the list of EBAL openers with a 60-48 victory over Amador Valley. The Grizzlies were led by senior guard Ryan Cibull, who had 17 points and 6 rebounds. Junior forward Tyler Roberts also had a solid game with 12 points and 8 rebounds. California’s strong shooting and disciplined defense helped them pull away in the second half and secure the win.

In other Bay Area high school basketball action, Westmont High School defeated Pioneer 57-47 in their season opener. The Warriors were led by senior guard Ryan Moore, who had 18 points and 5 rebounds. Junior forward Ethan Go also had a strong game with 12 points and 8 rebounds. Westmont’s balanced scoring and tough defense helped them overcome a slow start and secure the win.

Los Gatos High School also started their season on a positive note with a 62-51 win over Palo Alto. The Wildcats were led by senior guard Alex Braken-Guelke, who had 21 points and 6 rebounds. Junior forward Jake Ripp also had a strong performance with 14 points and 9 rebounds. Leland High School rounded out the list of Bay Area high school basketball winners with a 68-57 victory over Leigh. The Chargers were led by senior guard Justin Kho, who had 22 points and 7 rebounds. Junior forward Ryan Nguyen also had a solid game with 16 points and 9 rebounds. Leland’s efficient offense and tough defense helped them overcome a strong performance from Leigh and secure the win.

On the girls’ side, Acalanes High School put on an offensive clinic in their 87-45 win over Berean Christian. The Dons were led by senior guard Brooke Panfili, who had a game-high 28 points. Junior forward Lauren Kobashigawa also had a strong showing with 18 points and 10 rebounds. Acalanes’ high-scoring offense and dominant rebounding helped them cruise to victory.
