Sheinbaum assured that she would keep prioritizing the protection of workers’ pay and benefits

Claudia Sheinbaum, the virtual presidential candidate representing Morena, reiterated her commitment to protecting wages and employment benefits, emphasizing that the well-being of workers is directly linked to the prosperity of Mexico.

In light of this, Sheinbaum encouraged the country’s workers to support her during her pre-campaign for the presidency, which is set to begin on November 20.

“Beyond a mere party alliance, it is our solidarity with the people of Mexico that will drive us forward. (…) We cannot change direction; the route is the Fourth Transformation,” she stated.

The Coordinator of the Committees for the Defense of the Fourth Transformation also highlighted the rise in the minimum wage in Mexico, which has improved under President Andrés Manuel López Obrador’s administration.

The Autonomous Confederation of Workers and Employees of Mexico (CATEM) expressed its backing for Claudia Sheinbaum, pledging to form 10,000 Committees for the Defense of Labor Transformation in support of her candidacy.

It’s noteworthy that CATEM, led by Senator Pedro Haces Barba, encompasses over 1,194 union organizations across all 32 states in the country.

During the Ordinary National Congress held at Arena Ciudad de México, CATEM Secretary General Pedro Haces Barba committed to ensuring the continuity of the Fourth Transformation, emphasizing that Mexico is at a pivotal moment and stating, “Mexico is now written with an ‘M’ for woman,” in reference to his support for Claudia Sheinbaum and her achievements.

“We find ourselves at a critical juncture, which is why, during this Congress, alongside Doctor Claudia Sheinbaum, we reaffirm our dedication to the values of the Fourth Transformation,” he highlighted.

Pedro Haces Barba recalled that following the passage of the Labor Reform, previous disputes among employers were resolved, leading to a new unionism that advocates for workers’ rights while upholding their wages and benefits.

Furthermore, the senator and CATEM leader expressed optimism that, in the coming year, employers would recognize workers’ circumstances and provide a significant wage increase.

“Esteemed employers, I respectfully appeal to you. We hope you will consider the current situation this year, Paco (Francisco Cervantes, president of the CCE), don’t overlook it, and think about a substantial wage increase for all Mexicans,” he urged.

He also highlighted the labor progress achieved during the current administration, including the establishment of union freedoms through leader elections, the elimination of outsourcing, the increase in profit-sharing, and the rise in the minimum wage.
