With the New Orleans Saints upgrading the quarterback position with the addition of veteran Derek Carr while also playing in one of the worst divisions in the league in the NFC South, the team was thought to be playoff-bound this year and potentially a threat in the NFC.
Unfortunately, neither scenario panned out for the Saints, even though the team did finish the 2023 NFL regular season with a winning record of 9-8.
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers turned out to be better than expected and were able to edge out the Saints for the division crown, which has led to some uncertainty for New Orleans heading into the NFL offseason.
Fortunately for the Saints, it appears the team might not be planning any significant moves at head coach, with Dennis Allen expected to return, but he could be adding some much-needed help to his coaching staff.
It appears that Jon Gruden could be returning to the sideline as part of Allen’s coaching staff, which would reunite him with Carr, who he coached with the Las Vegas Raiders, according to Jeff Duncan of The Times-Picayune via Dov Kleiman.

It was an ugly exit for Gruden with the Raiders a couple of years ago due to some controversial emails that surfaced, so it’s uncertain what kind of impact he’ll have in New Orleans if he does indeed return to coaching in some capacity with the Saints.
Right now, it seems as though the Saints could use all the help they can get to reach the team’s true potential on both sides of the football.
