Quarterback is the most important position in football and the best ones in the NFL can typically drag their team through any situation.
This will never become more prevalent than in the playoffs when it’s win-or-go-home and adversity will inevitably strike.
By and large, there will be a lot of experienced postseason quarterbacks playing this year – some who’ve been successful and others who have not.
ESPN’s Mike Greenberg ranked the five AFC quarterbacks he has the most confidence in this year: Patrick Mahomes, Lamar Jackson, Josh Allen, Tua Tagovailoa, and C.J. Stroud.

The first three names on this list are obvious: Mahomes has played in 14 playoff games in five seasons, including multiple Super Bowls, while Jackson and Allen are two of the best quarterbacks in the NFL who’ve also seen postseason action.
The final two are a bit strange, though, as Tagovailoa has never played in the postseason – he was injured in the Miami Dolphins’ 2022 wildcard match with the Buffalo Bills – while Stroud is a rookie.
Tagovailoa showed growth this season in his second year under head coach Mike McDaniel and leads the league in passing yards and completion percentage.
Stroud, meanwhile, has shown poise as a first-year player with just five interceptions on the season.
Mahomes’ situation is probably the most interesting because he and the Kansas City Chiefs haven’t played up to their typical standard.
But because of his postseason success, it’s hard to doubt arguably the best quarterback in the NFL.
Jackson’s and Allen’s legacies are on the line, too, as Jackson has won just one playoff game and Allen has yet to reach a Super Bowl.
