During the 2021 NBA Draft, the Detroit Pistons chose to use their No. 1 overall pick on guard Cade Cunningham, with the team hoping he’d become the new face of the franchise and a player they could build around moving forward.

Unfortunately for Detroit, things haven’t gone as planned with Cunningham thus far, as he has really struggled to be available for the Pistons during his short stint with the team.

It seemed to be more of the same for Cunningham recently when it seemed like he seriously injured his left knee, but fortunately, the injury isn’t as severe as some anticipated.

According to Shams Charania of The Athletic, Cunningham has avoided a serious knee injury but will miss some time due to his latest ailment.

Since being drafted out of Oklahoma State University by the Pistons in 2021, Cunningham has played only 112 games for Detroit and has been labeled an injury-prone player that might never reach his true potential at the NBA level.

However, he has played in all 36 regular-season games for the Pistons thus far this season, which is a promising sign, even though he’s bound to miss a few games due to the knee injury.

Even though this has quickly become a forgettable season for the Pistons franchise, with the team winning only three games in the 36 they’ve played up to this point, Cunningham is putting up career-high numbers across the board.

In 36 games, Cunningham has averaged 22.8 points, 7.3 assists, and 4.1 rebounds per game, shooting 44.9% from the floor and 33.5% from beyond the arc.
