Coming into the 2023 NFL regular season, the Jacksonville Jaguars were thought to be a potential title contender in the AFC after having an impressive season last year, with star quarterback Trevor Lawrence starting to come into his own.
It could be argued that the Jaguars gave the eventual Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs their toughest challenge in the NFL playoffs, which is why so many people were so high on this talented team led by a quarterback on the rise.
The Jaguars were thought to be so good in 2023 that many expected them to run away with the AFC South division title without much competition thought to be in the division this season.
Obviously, that didn’t turn out to be the case, with rookie quarterback C.J. Stroud leading the Houston Texans to a division title while giving the Jaguars a new challenge for years to come.
With the Jaguars having a disappointing season, head coach Doug Pederson let it be known what Lawrence will be working on during the NFL offseason, via Cameron Wolfe of NFL Network.
Jaguars HC Doug Pederson said clear No.1 focus for QB Trevor Lawrence this offseason will be turnovers. Pederson said they can’t turn the ball over as often as they did & starts with QB.
Lawrence’s 21 turnovers were 3rd most among QBs. Jaguars finished 28th in giveaways (30).

Turning the football over 21 times is a hefty number and obviously something that Lawrence really needs to work on moving forward if the Jaguars intend to be a force to be reckoned with in the coming years.
Only time will tell whether the Jaguars can truly be the real deal in the AFC and if Lawrence can be the superstar quarterback that everyone expects him to be, as there’s still time to turn things around.
