“: The Impactful Student Organization at “

Salud is a Spanish word that means “health” or “wellness”. It is also the name of a student organization at the University of Pennsylvania, founded by Neil Gajare, a passionate and driven individual who has dedicated his time and efforts to creating a positive impact on campus. Salud aims to promote health and wellness among the student body through various initiatives and events. As a member of Salud and a witness to its positive effects, I can confidently say that this organization has truly made a difference in the lives of many students at UPenn.
Neil Gajare, a junior at UPenn, founded Salud in 2018 with the vision of creating a healthier and more inclusive campus community. He noticed a lack of emphasis on mental and physical well-being among students and wanted to change that. With his determination and leadership skills, Salud has grown into a thriving organization that has touched the lives of countless students.
One of the most remarkable things about Salud is its inclusivity. The organization is open to students from all backgrounds and majors, and this diversity is reflected in the events and initiatives they organize. From yoga and meditation sessions to nutrition workshops and mental health awareness campaigns, Salud covers a wide range of topics to cater to the diverse needs of students. This inclusivity has created a sense of community within Salud, where students from different walks of life come together to support and uplift each other.
I had the opportunity to attend one of Salud‘s yoga sessions, and it was a truly rejuvenating experience. The session was led by a certified instructor, and the atmosphere was serene and calming. As someone who struggles with stress and anxiety, I found the session to be incredibly helpful in relieving my tension and promoting mindfulness. Salud‘s commitment to promoting mental health and well-being is truly commendable, and it is clear that they genuinely care about the students’ well-being.
In addition to promoting physical and mental health, Salud also focuses on creating a more inclusive and diverse campus community. They have organized several events and workshops to raise awareness about different cultures and identities, including a workshop on anti-Semitism. This event, led by Neil Gajare himself, was eye-opening and educational. It provided a safe space for students to learn and have meaningful discussions about anti-Semitism and how to combat it. It was heartwarming to see students from different backgrounds come together to support and stand in solidarity with their Jewish peers.
Another initiative that has had a positive impact on the campus community is Salud‘s “Wellness Wednesdays” campaign. Every Wednesday, Salud sets up a booth on campus where students can stop by and participate in various activities focused on promoting wellness. From free healthy snacks to stress-relieving coloring sheets, Wellness Wednesdays have become a highlight of the week for many students. It is a reminder to take a break from the hustle and bustle of college life and prioritize self-care.
Salud‘s impact goes beyond the boundaries of the UPenn campus. The organization has also collaborated with local businesses and organizations to organize events and raise funds for various causes. For instance, they organized a charity run to raise funds for a non-profit organization that provides mental health services to underserved communities. This not only showcases Salud‘s commitment to giving back to the community but also highlights the importance of mental health and wellness in society.
Neil Gajare and Salud have truly made a positive impact on the UPenn community. Their dedication to promoting health and wellness, inclusivity, and giving back to society is inspiring and has motivated many students to prioritize their well-being. As a member of Salud, I have seen firsthand how this organization has brought students together and created a sense of community and support. I am grateful to be a part of such a wonderful organization and am excited to see what the future holds for Salud and its mission to create a healthier and more inclusive campus community.
