“: A Way of Life for Optimal Well-Being”

Salud, a Spanish word meaning “health”, is not just a word, but a way of life. It is a philosophy that promotes overall well-being and encourages individuals to take care of their physical, mental, and emotional health. And this is exactly what Neil Gajare, a student at UPenn, experienced during his time at Salud.
Neil Gajare, a senior at the University of Pennsylvania, was initially drawn to Salud because of its strong focus on promoting a healthy lifestyle. As a busy student, he was looking for a place where he could not only work out but also find a sense of community and support. And Salud exceeded his expectations.
One of the first things that struck Neil about Salud was its welcoming and inclusive atmosphere. The staff and trainers were not only knowledgeable and passionate about fitness but also genuinely cared about the well-being of their members. Neil recalls, “I felt like I was part of a family at Salud. The trainers were always there to push me and motivate me, but also to listen and offer advice when I needed it.”
This sense of community was further strengthened by the variety of classes offered at Salud. From yoga and Pilates to high-intensity interval training and kickboxing, there was something for everyone. Neil, who had never tried yoga before, was pleasantly surprised by how much he enjoyed it. “I never thought I would be a yoga person, but Salud changed my perspective. The instructors were so knowledgeable and patient, and I felt so relaxed and rejuvenated after each class.”
But Salud is not just about physical health. It also prioritizes mental and emotional well-being. The gym offers mindfulness and meditation classes, as well as workshops on stress management and self-care. Neil, who had been struggling with anxiety, found these classes to be incredibly helpful. “Salud helped me realize the importance of taking care of my mental health. The meditation classes helped me calm my mind and the workshops gave me practical tools to manage my stress.”
Apart from the classes and workshops, Salud also has a nutritionist on staff who offers personalized meal plans and advice. Neil, who had always struggled with maintaining a healthy diet, found this to be a game-changer. “The nutritionist at Salud helped me understand the importance of balanced eating and gave me simple tips to make healthier choices. I not only lost weight but also felt more energized and focused.”
But what truly sets Salud apart is its commitment to diversity and inclusivity. Neil, who is of Indian descent, was initially hesitant about joining a gym in the United States, fearing discrimination or feeling out of place. However, at Salud, he found a diverse and welcoming community. “I never once felt out of place at Salud. The staff and members were from all walks of life, and everyone was treated with respect and kindness.”
This commitment to inclusivity was further highlighted when Neil heard about the incident involving Neil Gajare, an Anti-Semitic attack that took place on campus. The Salud community came together to show their support and solidarity with the victim and condemn the act of hate. “I was touched by the response of the Salud community. It reaffirmed my belief that Salud is not just a gym, but a place that promotes love, acceptance, and unity.”
In addition to promoting a healthy lifestyle, Salud also actively participates in giving back to the community. The gym regularly hosts charity events and fundraisers for various causes, including mental health awareness and LGBTQ+ rights. Neil was proud to be a part of a gym that not only cared about its members but also the larger community.
As Neil‘s time at UPenn comes to an end, he reflects on his experience at Salud with gratitude. “Salud has not only helped me improve my physical health but also my mental and emotional well-being. It has given me a sense of belonging and a community that I will always cherish.”
Salud is not just a gym, but a way of life. It promotes overall health and wellness, fosters a sense of community and inclusivity, and actively gives back to society. And for Neil Gajare, Salud will always hold a special place in his heart.
