San Mateo County law enforcement agencies hosting gun buyback event Saturday

For Immediate Release:

The San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office is excited to announce that on Saturday, April 10th, a gun buyback event will be held in Belmont! This is a great chance for citizens of the county to get rid of unwanted firearms which they no longer need.

This event is part of a larger effort to reduce gun violence across San Mateo County and make our communities safer. This event is designed to remove guns from potential criminals, as well as to encourage responsible gun ownership. The Sheriff’s Office is collaborating with local partners from the Belmont Police Department, Belmont Community Center, and the San Mateo County Health System to host the event.

The gun buyback event will be hosted at the Belmont Community Center, located at 4377 Belmont Avenue, and will be open from 9 am to 2 pm. At the event, San Mateo County residents will be able to turn in firearms of all kinds, no questions asked. In exchange, people will be given gift cards which can be used at a variety of stores.

The gift cards will be issued on a first-come, first-served basis, and the amount of the gift card will depend on the type of firearm submitted. For example, those who turn in handguns will receive a $100 gift card, while those who turn in assault weapons will receive a $250 gift card.

The goal of the event is to help rid our communities of dangerous firearms which could be used in the commission of a crime. San Mateo County Sheriff Carlos G. Bolanos said, “We are committed to making our communities safer, and this is one way to do so. I encourage all residents of San Mateo County to use this opportunity to get rid of any unwanted firearms they may have.”

The Sheriff’s Office is also urging anyone who may possess any type of firearm illegally to turn it in at this event. While no questions will be asked at the event, it is important for those in possession of illegal firearms to remember that they can still face legal repercussions if caught.

This gun buyback event is just one of many initiatives that the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office is taking to reduce gun violence and keep our communities safe. All residents of San Mateo County are invited and encouraged to take advantage of this opportunity.

If you have any questions about the event, please contact the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office at (650) 522-7239. We look forward to seeing you at the event and thank you for doing your part to make our communities safer!
