The Vegas Golden Knights’ Jonathan Marchessault and Jack Eichel capitalized on their shootout attempts to hand the San Jose Sharks a 5-4 loss at T-Mobile Arena. The Golden Knights, who are in the midst of a playoff push, needed the win to keep their momentum going and the two forwards delivered.
Marchessault opened the scoring in the first period with a power-play goal, his tenth of the season. He added to his tally with a second goal in the second period, giving the Golden Knights a 3-2 lead.
Eichel, who was acquired from the Buffalo Sabres at the trade deadline, scored the tying goal late in the third period, sending the game to overtime and eventually a shootout. In the shootout, Marchessault and Eichel both scored on their attempts, while the Sharks failed to convert on theirs.
The win was huge for the Golden Knights, who are currently in a tight race for the Pacific Division title. They are now just two points behind the Edmonton Oilers for the top spot in the division.
Marchessault and Eichel have been key contributors to the Golden Knights’ success this season. Marchessault has been a consistent presence on the score sheet, recording 24 goals and 33 assists in 51 games. Eichel, meanwhile, has added 10 goals and nine assists in 23 games since joining the team.
The two forwards have been instrumental in the team’s recent surge in the standings. They have combined for 12 goals and 16 assists in their last 12 games, helping to lead the Golden Knights to a 9-3-0 record in that span.
The Golden Knights will need Marchessault and Eichel to continue their strong play if they are to make a serious run at the Pacific Division title. With the playoffs just around the corner, the two forwards will be key players in the team’s push for a Stanley Cup.
Marchessault and Eichel’s shootout heroics against the Sharks were a reminder of just how important they are to the Golden Knights. Their ability to come through in the clutch was a huge boost for the team and a sign of things to come in the playoffs.
