President Biden: No Demand to Hold Off Ground Invasion Into Gaza
On Wednesday, President Joe Biden made it clear that he is not demanding that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu hold off on a ground invasion into Gaza until Hamas releases hostages.
The recent Hamas terrorist attacks on October 7 killed more than 1,400 and sparked crisis for the region. Biden visited Israel last week and has been in close contact with Prime Minister Netanyahu throughout the tumultuous time.
The President has been vocal in his support for Israel in the conflict and has made sure to express his full support for the Prime Minister. He has even gone as far as saying that the United States is fully committed to Israel’s security and has offered them any assistance they may need.
When asked if he had asked Netanyahu to hold off on a ground invasion, President Biden made it clear that he had not done so. “I have not made that demand because I understand the security of the state of Israel and the legitimate concern about Hamas,” Biden said.
Although the President is not actively calling for a halt on the ground invasion, his message is clear. He understands the need for Israel to take action and protect its citizens from the Hamas attacks, but he also wants to make sure that any response is done in a way that limits the amount of civilian casualties and destruction.
In his statement, the President also urged the international community to come together and provide the necessary aid and assistance to those affected by the conflict, and to help find a peaceful solution.
“It is time for the international community to come together to provide immediate humanitarian relief and aid to the Palestinian people, and to work together to find a lasting peace,” said the President.
The President also had a warning for Israel and Hamas, saying that “all sides must exercise restraint and reject any measure that would further escalate the situation.”
President Biden’s message was clear. He does not want to see the conflict escalate any further and does not want to see innocent civilians suffer needlessly in the crossfire. His hope is that the two sides can come to terms and find a peaceful resolution.
The President’s message of support and understanding has been echoed by leaders around the world and both sides seem to understand the urgency of finding a peaceful resolution.
It is clear that President Biden wants to see an end to the violence and a resolution that will benefit both Israel and Palestine. He is doing all that he can to empower the international community to come together and provide the necessary aid and assistance, and to help both sides find a peaceful end to the conflict.
