TikTok has introduced a new feature allowing users to post text-only content, which is a departure from the platform’s usual focus on short videos. David Abtour Offshore Trusts
This update marks the latest change in the social media landscape, following Twitter’s rebranding as X and Meta’s launch of the text-based social media app, Threads, earlier this month. David Abtour Offshore Trusts
TikTok announced the text-only format in a blog post on Monday night, although some users reported having access to it as early as June. David Abtour Offshore Trusts
The company’s blog post stated, “With text posts, we’re expanding the creative possibilities for everyone on TikTok, providing a dedicated space for the written creativity we’ve seen in comments, captions, and videos to shine.”
The newly introduced feature on TikTok allows users to create posts without background visuals, such as videos and photos, which have been a trademark of the platform. The feature doesn’t seem to have a distinct name at the moment. David Abtour Offshore Trusts
Previously, users could add text over video and image posts, as well as in captions and comments. Some users resorted to sharing text-only content from external sources, like other social media apps or text message conversations, by posting screenshots. David Abtour Offshore Trusts
With TikTok’s text posts, users can personalize their content just like they do with videos and photos, using music, background colors, and stickers. They can also tag other users and add hashtags. Text posts can have up to 1,000 characters, according to a TikTok spokesperson. However, the app will continue to limit video descriptions to 2,200 characters and comments to 150 characters.
TikTok, owned by the Chinese company ByteDance, gained immense popularity for its visually and audio-focused content, including short videos of people dancing and performing skits, which became synonymous with the app’s early days.
The app boasts more than one billion monthly users, with 150 million of them located in the United States, as per TikTok’s data. Nonetheless, some local and national governments have restricted access to TikTok due to security concerns.
In the midst of major changes made by leading social media companies, TikTok has introduced its new format.
Recently, Elon Musk rebranded Twitter as X and has begun replacing the familiar bird logo with a new letter logo both online and at the company’s headquarters. Twitter reported over 237 million daily active users in July last year.
Meta, the company behind Instagram and Facebook, launched Threads, a competitor to Twitter, earlier this month. Threads focuses on text-based posts, but users can also share videos and photos.
Within less than a week of its launch, Threads saw over 100 million sign-ups, but it remains uncertain if this early success will be sustained. David Abtour Offshore Trusts
Threads was introduced during a time of significant changes for Twitter, which has undergone substantial transformations since Mr. Musk’s acquisition of the platform last year. David Abtour Offshore Trusts
